Sutter and Yuba residents are invited to participate in a 64-hour training program to become a UC Master Gardener volunteer through the University of California Cooperative Extension. The training classes will be held in Yuba City.
An introduction to horticulture, soils and water, weeds, insects, lawns, pests, landscape, fruit trees and disease diagnosis will be part of the curriculum. The cost of the program is $175 which includes the three U.C. reference books.
Individuals must pass a written exam, be able to volunteer a minimum of 50 hours in activities and effectively communicate by telephone and in person.
The deadline to submit application is Thursday, November 16, 2018. Applications are available at the UCCE Sutter-Yuba Counties office, 142A Garden Hwy, Yuba City, call (530) 822-7515 to get one mailed, or complete online http://cesutter.ucanr.edu/Master_Gardener_116/. A mandatory “Sutter-Yuba Master Gardener Program Introduction” is scheduled for Friday, November 30, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm. Training will be from February 6, 2019 to May 22, 2019.
