Suspect in Child Molestation Case Sentenced to 21 Years Prison

On August 23, 2019, 33-year-old Michael Edward Wood, of Olivehurst, pleaded no-contest to continuous
sexual abuse of a minor and furnishing a controlled substance to a minor. Following an investigation that began in
2018, Wood was charged with the above-mentioned crimes, which occurred in both Yuba and Sutter Counties.
This morning, 9/16/2019, Michael Wood was sentenced in Yuba County Superior Court to 21 years in state
prison, and he will be required to serve a minimum of 85% of his term before being eligible for parole. The victim
gave a victim-impact statement in court, and her bravery was acknowledged by Hon. Julia Scrogin, who imposed the
sentence. Once paroled, Wood will be required to serve 20.5 years on parole and will have a lifetime requirement to
register as a Sex Offender.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that there was at least one other victim of sexual
abuse who has yet to be identified – the victim was a minor at the time of the offense. Due to the crimes occurring
several years ago and the change in the suspect’s appearance from the time of the assaults until now, the Sheriff’s
Office is releasing a booking photo of Wood from 2016, in addition to his current 2019 booking photo.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is requesting that anyone with information about this case contact the Detective’s Unit.
